Why did you choose to work for Triumph?
I initially applied for an industrial placement at Triumph after seeing their advertisement on a university website. During my placement year I got many fantastic opportunities and exciting projects, so when the prospect of returning to Triumph as a graduate engineer was presented, I jumped at the chance.
Have you worked within different areas of the business?
I have always worked within the Electrical department, where I have spent most of my time within the Model Based Systems Engineering team. I was responsible for supporting the development and testing of the ‘My Triumph’ mobile application.
What work do you get involved in on a day-to-day basis?
I work on both new and old technologies for several different motorcycles, whereby I work closely with business stakeholders from many different departments. I support them in understanding their needs and use a model-based systems approach to define the feature. Some example steps in the process are identifying stakeholder needs, capturing them as requirements at multiple levels from customer, through to logical and component level definitions.
What role do you have within your team and how do they help you?
As a model-based systems engineer, I work individually taking sole ownership over the definition of various features. I also support the electrical components team with the development of the new Triumph technologies. Although I work individually, I often work collaboratively others in the team to discuss my features which allows me to see different viewpoints and benefit from the vast experience throughout the team.
What do you like best about Triumph?
The working environment, everyone has a positive working attitude and shares the common goal of producing a motorcycle that they are proud of.
How has your career progressed whilst working at Triumph?
During my two years at Triumph, I feel I have greatly developed my capabilities as a systems engineer as well as professional skills including communication and managing my workload. I have also had the opportunity to attend training courses allowing me to improve my existing skills as well as learning new ones.
What did the recruitment process involve when you applied to work at Triumph?
I applied for my industrial placement online during my second year at university, to which I was invited for an interview with two team leaders at the factory. In the next week or two I received a phone call offering me the placement which I gladly accepted.
Over the course of my placement, I worked hard taking all the opportunities I could. This was noticed within my team, and I was offered a full-time role for when I had graduated. Triumph also offered me support during my final year which I was incredibly grateful for, and I couldn’t wait return to the office.
